Made in chelsea analysis

1.  How does the trailer use media language to engage it's target audience?

the advert starts off with non diegetic sound of classical music which after the first clip turns into an indie rock song that most people will know to a degree which will draw people in to watching the advert, the first clip is seemingly shot through the male gaze showing an attractive woman lifting a black lace mask upto her face, this could be interprited as a sexual connotation due to the material of the mask, the clip is also mysteriously lit up and focussed ewith a high depth of field to not show any background and keep the focus of the viewer on her face, the slow motion rave style party shots that contradict the viewers perception of the first clip which intecifies the way the audience with see the people in the rest of the advert

2.  What sort of representations are created of young people?

the advert starts off with a classical 'masquerade ball' style mask being lifted upto a girls face, she's wearing makeup to fit a classical/old fassioned steriotype for british women, it then moves onto seemingly posh people dressed in period clothing dancing as if at a rave but the clips are quickly edited and put into slow motion, this clearly shows their expressions and that they are having a good time, streight away this shows an upper class view of modern britain, the audience at this point would see all streight upper class people having a rave style party, there are some scenes of girls pouting at the camera while hugging a stuffed bear and having their picture taken, showing they are probably cumfortable with their looks, this cuts to a shot of a girl still in old fassioned clothing roller blading through the room, the girl is obviously litten up by a light probably placed above the camera, this could show some innosence or show that she is having a good time which would be backed up by the next show of men on space hoppers obviously having a good time, the girl sitting on the horse could be the owner of the house because of the way she is sat above everyone else and seems to have a body guard or man servant stood in front of her as if to protect her, this could show a bit of wrecklessness as she is letting this happen to her home, this is followed by a shot of an obviously homosexual person being fed grapes by a girl showing the male in this situation is in control which is followed by a total change where a girl is leading a man up the stairs and the girl is in control which is contradictive to the way they dressed as a time where men would have been in charge (badly worded) this is followed by more mid closeup shots of people partying quickly edited to match the song and make the advert easier to watch, this is followed by a shot of a man opening a champagne bottle with a sword, this can be enterprited as either a representation of excessive showing of wealth due to the champagne or playfulness/coolness of opening it with a sword or as a sexual connetation, this is followed again by a few examples of carelessness and destructiveness with jousting armour with mop's seemingly usual party behaviour for rich people, this is followed again by scenes of a sexual nature where a man is blindfolded and sat on a bed showing again that the women are in controll of relationships, this is followed by some wider angle shots of the rave getting a bit more lively and drunken, this is then cut to the 'keep calm and party on' where the usual 'keep calm' is turned into 'party on' showing this is regular for these people, it is also on the purple background which could either represent royalty or just be the e4 brand identity colours

3.  What do we learn about E4 from watching the trailer?

from the trailer we can learn that e4 is a cutting edge channel bringing a new style of faked reality tv show, the advert is well filmed and edited and seems to have a fairly good looking cast showing that e4 uses the male gaze theory to attract male viewers, it must also have alot of money to be able to use such a posh house, the cast is also quite big so there will be alot of versatitility for the audience to watch, i think that alot of other programmes on e4 are for the male audience while this show seems to attract the female audience alot more

Keep The Flame Alive: Mo Farah backs new £240,000 athletics track

Gold medallist Mo Farah has lent his support to plans to refit the athletics track where Olympics legend Sir Roger Bannister trained to break his four-minute mile.

It is understood that ministers have decided to place honours arising from the London Games outside the Whitehall honours system.
The move will ensure that there is no restriction on the number of honours, sources said. The Daily Telegraph disclosed last month that a quota system meant Olympic gold medal winners could be ignored in favour of senior civil servants in the New Year’s honours list.
Britain won 29 gold medals at the Olympics, and the scale of success and the depth of public delight at the victories of champions such as Bradley Wiggins, Jessica Ennis, Ben Ainslie and Mo Farah raised expectations that many competitors would be honoured.
At the Paralympics, Britain has so far won more than 100 medals.
Among the most high-profile winners are Sarah Storey, who has amassed 11 golds in two sports over her career, and Ellie Simmonds, who won two swimming golds.
