New and digital media erodes the dividing line between reporters and reported, between active producers and passive audiences: people are enabled to speak for themselves.

Have such developments made the media more democratic, with more equal participation by more people?

although the main way news is broadcasted to people is usually from larger institutions made up of propper reporters and news channels such as bbc news which is on tv every few hours allot of news is found out directly from people posting videos on youtube and information being posted and retweeted on twitter which can have a less biased view on the news then most news channels depending on the person who made the video or posted it on twitter, this means that information can be seen from all sides of the story from people in differant countries and seperate origins, therefore we do get a more democratic view on the media

but this can vary between differant age groups, older people will probably only watch the news broadcasted on tv, listen to the radio and read news papers that are probably from the same institution while younger people can be on twitter, facebook, they may watch the news on tv so they will get the wider more democratic view of the media and probably learn the differances between the way news is delivered by bigger institutions subliminally.

i think that the problem with more people participating in delivering digital media to other people is that allot of important information can be missed that larger institutions will not miss such as lead up's to events and the reasoning behind what has been done
